For the first time the Scottish Junior National Pairs for the Robert Frischmann Trophy was held on Bridge Base Online due to the current coronavirus pandemic.

As the number of Scottish pairs is always relatively small, Gosia invited junior pairs from all over the UK and Ireland to participate through their national bridge organisations. Even though this idea was only mooted a week before the event, 42 pairs participated today and they were kibitzed by parents and squad leaders from all the other countries.

The event was run over 24 boards and expertly directed by Paul and Julia. The Junior Camrose is always the most pleasant home international weekend to run and this event was no different. The only director calls were for result adjustments when time ran out for the round, normally caused by unstable internet connections.

The winners were Stephen Barr & John Connolly (Ireland), who were well clear of Thomas and Andrew Bradkin (England) and Ronan Valentine and Liam O’Brien (Scotland).

I hope that this event will prove the first of such international events for the home nations.
