At this time of year, I’d normally be writing to you about what has been happening over the last couple of months and looking forward to 2025. I shall still do that in the next couple of weeks but in the meantime, we have some urgent operational resource issues to report.
Replacing our CEO
Martyn Halsall who has been our CEO since April is leaving his post. The Board thanks him for the work he has done over the last 9 months, and we wish him well for the future.
The Board has taken the opportunity, in discussion with many of our key volunteers, to review whether we require another CEO or an alternative post. Most of our operational convenors are self-sufficient, but still require a measure of support, and as we are an organisation heavily reliant on volunteers, we have concluded that a more appropriate role is an Operations Coordinator rather than a CEO.
The Operations Coordinator will provide operational oversight and be the communication link between the operations and governance of the organisation. At a practical level they will coordinate the production and reporting of the Operating Plan on behalf of the Operational teams and will support the operational teams but will not directly manage them.
We would very much like the role to be filled by one of our members. It is a flexible part time role expected to average 15 hours per week once fully established. A level of remuneration will be paid. We are looking for somebody with the following relevant skills and experience:
- Understanding how to support volunteer teams in a not-for-profit organisation.
- Admin, interpersonal and chairing skills.
- Excellent communication and listening skills and used to engaging with stakeholders at various levels.
Website Editor
Although the website layout and presentation has improved, there is a pressing need for a Website Editor. Content will be created by other volunteers, but the role requires somebody to act in an editorial capacity. It is a part time flexible role that requires the person to:
- Collaborate with content writers, graphic designers, marketing and communication specialists to align content with organisational goals and audience.
- Ensure content meets quality standards for grammar, style, and tone.
- Create and maintain editorial guidelines to ensure consistency across all website content.
- Ensure content is visually appealing and accessible, with attention to layout and navigation.
- Develop and maintain a content calendar and keep content relevant and engaging.
- Regularly refresh older content, update links, and archive outdated information.
Communications Lead
We fully recognise that our communications need to be improved and better coordinated. This includes communication to you our members and clubs, between volunteers and trustees, as well as to the external audience. We are looking for a volunteer who would be interested in taking on this role. They will need to have relevant skills and experience.
If you are interested or require further information about any of these important roles, please get in touch with me in the strictest of confidence at
Best wishes for a lovely Christmas
