USA has won the tournament by just over 30VP from France. The Scottish team lost the final two matches and finished in 7th place.
Following their excellent performance in Wroclaw in September 2106, the Scotland team of Liz McGowan & Fiona McQuaker, Sam Punch & Paula Leslie and Anne Symons & Helen Kane - captained by Brian Short - are guests of the Chinese Contract Bridge Association in their prestigious tournament. There is a tournament website which can be accessed at http://www.ccba.org.cn/Tour/Tourindex.aspx?tourid=10746
The teams event runs from Wednesday 18th to Saturday 21st October - there are 8 teams playing double round-robins of 12 boards with 4 matches each day apart from the Saturday when there are only 2. Beijing time is UK BST + 7 hours. The timings on all days (UK BST) are 02.00-03.40 ; 04.10-05.50 ; 07.30-09.10 ; 09.40-11.20 with just the first 2 matches on the final Saturday. The first 7 matches comprise RR1 and the second 7 are RR2. There is no knockout with the winners being the top of the RR standings.
2 tables (ie. 1 match) are being shown on BBO (no Chinese teams) and a second match always with a Chinese team is being shown on 'Our-Game' which is a Chinese BBO type site (we think). Brian has tried to access this but is hampered by his lack of Mandarin. Scotland is scheduled to be on BBO the last match on Wednesday 18th and the first on Thursday 19th. The draw and BBO matches for the second RR are not known at present as they will depend on the finishing order in RR1.
There was a day and a half of pairs on 16th and 17th October, which was won by Janice Molson & Lynn Deas, with Liz and Fiona finishing with a top half 10th place.
We all wish the team the very best of luck.
