General Information

Open double elimination teams of four. Teams eliminated from the consolation event will be invited to play in the Winter Swiss Teams at the Carlton on 19 January at no extra charge. 

Entry Fee

£180 per team (including table money).

Conditions

Open Event - there is no requirement to be a member of the SBU. Players should, however, be a member of an officially recognised (EBL) NBO.

Seeding will be determined from the list of entrants on the closing date. The criteria will be transparent and similar to that used in the National League with discretion for non-Scottish teams. 

Maximum of 32 teams.  Unmatched pairs please send your names to the event convener who will coordinate making up teams.

2020 Specific Conditions of Contest

Brown Sticker conventions and methods may be played if sent to the convener two weeks prior to the event (details in Conditions of Contest).

Format

Double elimination teams of 4, 5 or 6;
Rounds 1 and 2 are ... 2 x 16-board head-to-head matches or triads;
Rounds 3 to 5 are ... 16-boards knockout;
Quarter-finals and semifinals are ... 24 boards; and
FINAL is 32 boards.

Teams who lose twice play in the consolation event which qualifies 8-10 teams to Sunday's subsidiary final.

Teams eliminated from the consolation event will be invited to play in the Winter Swiss Teams which is held on the Sunday at the Carlton Bridge Club.

Catering

Saturday: 2 courses: Steak & Ale Pie with veg and potatoes, Baked Chicken and Fajhitas or Roast Vegetable Rissotto / Apple Crumble and custard or Fruit Salad. £9. Saturday one hour meal break starting aproximately either 2.45 or 3pm approximately.

Please order Saturday requirements for the team at time of entry, or by emailing the convener.

Sunday: Soup & Sandwiches. £6. Orders for Sunday will be taken on Saturday evening, once the finalists are known.

Accommodation

Please note that players should make their own accommodation arrangements.
The SBU have arranged special rates at the nearby Holiday Inn.

Master Points

Awards are made for each match won according to the round being played.

All points awarded are National Points: red SBU or green EBU.

Main Event

Round 1 Total of 2.00 available, 1.00 for a 16 board match.
Round 2 1.00 for a 16 board match.
Consolation Pool A 0.25 for each match won.
Round 3 1.50 for a 16 board match.
Consolation Pool B 0.50 for each match won.
Consolation Pool C 2.00 for playoff
Round 4 2.00 for a 16 board match.
Quarter-final 3.00 for a 24 board match
Semifinal & Final Qualifying for the final = 4.00 plus 6.00 for winning

 

Subsidiary Final

Those teams qualifying for the Subsidiary Final will be awarded 0.75 for each match won in this event with the top three places being awarded a 3.00, 2.00 and 1.00 bonus.
