Welcome to the National Bridge Organisation for Scotland
SBU Virtual Club
After a 5-year stint, George Plant is standing down from the post of SBU Treasurer. We are therefore looking for someone to take over this role. The post attracts an honorarium and would suit a retired accountant or someone who has undertaken a similar role for an organisation in the past. George has indicated that he would be happy to assist the new treasurer with the handover process. If you think you might be interested in this position which contributes to the running of the SBU for the benefit of all members, please contact Fiona Greenwood on 07796 264671 or at Fiona Greenwood by Tuesday 11th August...

Dear Members, I was so pleased to see so many of you in attendance via Zoom at the virtual 86th AGM of the SBU on Tuesday 30th June. I hope that you all have been managing to play bridge in some way or other over the last few months? As you know, the SBU have now entered into a contract with BBO to run “proper” tournaments on the site and are enabling many Clubs and Districts, in turn, to run their own. Being a BBO TD Director requires special skills and many have been trained already to a National level and those trained, in turn, have been training others to run club and district tournaments in these virtual clubs. Clubs and Districts should soon start to receive...
For the first time the Scottish Junior National Pairs for the Robert Frischmann Trophy was held on Bridge Base Online due to the current coronavirus pandemic. As the number of Scottish pairs is always relatively small, Gosia invited junior pairs from all over the UK and Ireland to participate through their national bridge organisations. Even though this idea was only mooted a week before the event, 42 pairs participated today and they were kibitzed by parents and squad leaders from all the other countries. The event was run over 24 boards and expertly directed by Paul and Julia. The Junior Camrose is always the most pleasant home international weekend to run and...
SBU Bronze (Silver) Teams League
The SBU has been looking at ways in which more on-line bridge can be played during the Coronavirus Lockdown. To this end, the SBU is proposing to run a Bronze League for SBU Members over the coming weeks. This event will be open to all Bronze members and limited Silver members, as of 1 April 2020. Teams may have up to six members, including up to 1 Silver.. The event will be run on BBO. There may be several divisions, depending on how many teams would like to play in the league. Placement of teams in a particular division will be based on the number of masterpoints acquired cumulatively by the members of the team. For those teams with more than 4 members this...

Scottish Cup Final 2019-20 Postponed
The final of the 2019-20 event is postponed until circumstances allow it to be played. The closing date for the 2020-21 event has also been lifted: there seems little point in closing entries when we have no idea when it will be possible to arrange matches. Which gives you all more time to enter for some real bridge with real people at the table: teams of four matches should be possible even before the clubs are able to re-open for tournaments. Those of you engaged in lockdown events might decide that this is the year to enter! You can enter online at...

ALL SBU EVENTS CANCELLED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.
