Scottish Online League - Iteration 6
The next iteration of the Scottish Online League (SOL) starts 10th January.Teams of 4 - 8 players are invited to enter. Leagues are great fun and teams play in a division of 10 teams where they are matched against others of equivalent ability. Teams will play a 24 board match against each other team with one match each week. Red points for all matches won. President's Newsletter - December 2021
Dear Members I hope that this finds you well, and that you are continuing to enjoy your bridge, whether online or F2F. In this newsletter to SBU members I want to highlight a number of new and exciting developments. Considering our responsibilities as we return to ‘a new norm for bridge clubs’ Firstly, particularly in light of the prevalence of a new strain of COVID-19 and Scottish Government statements, we need to remind players of the legal requirement to wear masks at bridge clubs. Lady Milne & Senior Camrose selections
Based on the results of the Lady Milne & Senior Camrose combined trial held this weekend past, I can announce the two teams to represent Scotland. Lady Milne (due to be held in Wales in April 2022) - Abi Milne & Sheila Adamson, Liz McGowan & Fiona McQuaker and Anne Symons & Sam Punch Senior Camrose (due to be held in Northern Ireland in May 2022) - Bob McPaul & Sandy Duncan, David Shenkin & Cameron McLatchie and Roy Bennett & Harry Smith. 2021 Sidney H. Lazard Jr. Sportsmanship Award
The SBU is proud to announce that the American Contract Bridge League has awarded the Sidney H. Lazard, Jr. Sportsmanship Award to The Scottish Open team, comprising of Alex Adamson, James Hay, Derrick Peden, Stephen Peterkin, Samantha Punch, Derek Sanders, and NPC Anne Perkins, competing at the EBL qualification competitions for the World Team Championships, in August 2021. In 2001, Lazard established the Sidney H. Lazard, Jr. Sportsmanship Award in honour of his son, who died in 1999 after battling cancer. Scottish Cup Plate Final (2019-20)
The 2019-20 Scottish Cup Plate Final was played on BBO on bonfire night, but there were few fireworks. DURNING (Bill Durning, Ian McClure, Duncan Rodger, Ian Brookes ) were on top form, whereas runners-up STRATHERN (Kevin Strathern, David Ritchie, Stuart Thomson and Nicol Taylor were having a bad day. STRATHERN conceded after 36 boards when the margin reached three figures. Congratulations to the winners, and to both teams on getting the match played.
SBU WINTER CONGRESS
The Winter Congress will take place on the 11-12th December on BBO. Swiss Pairs on Saturday and Swiss Teams on Sunday. Both events are red-pointed. Start times for both events are 11:00 am. The 2nd session will start at 3:30 pm after an interval of 90 minutes. Play will conclude around 6:30 pm. Pre-registration and payment are essential. Please enter through the SBU website. Go to Events/Upcoming Events (Enter Online). Prizes for the top pairs/teams and top Silver/Bronze pairs/teams.
Winter 4s 2022
The Winter 4s is the premier teams event on the SBU calendar. We ran it for the first time online in March 2021 and it proved to lend itself well to the format on Realbridge. The decision has therefore been taken to run it along similar lines again, but to move it to its usual time slot at the end of January over the final two weekends.
