It doesn't seem that just a month ago we were bemoaning weeks of rain, and our hearts were going out to those whose homes and businesses had been ruined by the ensuing floods 4 weeks ago at the Mull Congress, due to the inclement weather, Horst had his biggest ever entry for the Sunday morning knockout teams. Following government advice, players were washing their hands more regularly. 3 weeks ago, West District's Congress Pairs was 1 table down from 2019. Update from EBL and BGB re Covid 19
The attached letter has just been received from the EBL outlining what might possibly happen to the European events scheduled for Madeira in June. images/EBLCovid-19_infolettertoNBOs-240320.pdf BGB has postponed both the Lady Milne due to be played in Coventry in April and the Senior Camrose in Dublin in May. They are hoping to hold both events in England the same weekend in the autumn. ALL SBU EVENTS CANCELLED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. Having considered the updated “COVID-19 Information and Guidance for Non-Healthcare settings” from Health Protection Scotland, taking account of our Duty of Care to and the vulnerable demography of our bridge playing population, at a specially convened online meeting today, 16th March, the SBU Council decided to cancel ALL future events until further notice. This includes the Kennedy bronze Sims but not the Hugh Kelsey, as some clubs have already played their heat or are playing tonight. Camrose Trophy 2020 won by England
England have won the 2020 Camrose Trophy with a dominant performance over the two weekends. Ireland finished second with Wales climbing above Scotland to take third place. It was a disappointing weekend for the Scotland team (Jun Nakamaru-Pinder, Paul Barton, Frazer Morgan, Phil Stephens, Sam Punch, Stephen Peterkin, npc Anne Symons) who started the first match against Ireland well, but could not hold their lead and fell to their biggest defeat of the weekend. European Open Trial 2019-20 Results
The Final Results of the Open Trial have resulted in a tie for first place between Team PETERKIN and Team HAY. Teams have been playing for the right to represent Scotland in the Open event at the European Championships in Madeira in June. It has been decided to split the tie on the basis of who won the head to head match between the 2 teams. The Senior Trial held this past weekend was won by the Silverstone team.
