SCOTTISH BRIDGE UNION
The home of Scottish Bridge

Congratulations to the winners of the Glasgow Herald Trophy: Sally Brock, Barry Myers, Jackie Pye, and John Holland, who all travelled from London to play at Peebles for the weekend. The winners of the Daily Record Cup were Bev Godfrey, John Farmer, Babs Matthews, and Nichola Cockerill Smith, from the North of England.

Congress Pairs winners were Sally Brock and Barry Myers, while the Consolation Pairs winners were Trevor Hails, and Chris Ryall

A special mention for Tim Lambert and Rob Thornton who qualified for the pairs final and came in 16th, a great result for a pair who played in the Bronze tournament just last year!

We were also joined by 14 players from Northern Ireland, who helped create the especially friendly atmosphere of this Congress.

We experimented with early starts and finishes, some people liked it and others didn’t. Overall there is roughly a 50:50 split between night owls and early birds. We have to decide how to carry that forward, but in the meantime we are looking forward to the Winter Congress 7-9th December when we will be using the traditional 3 day Congress format.

The Saturday evening Master class enabled Liz McGowan to indulge in what she said was her second favourite pastime: talking about bridge. It was a fun session but we will try to remember her advice that “the more 3 card suits in your hand; the worse it is.” Thank you Liz.

The weekend raffle raised £279 to help the Scottish ladies team go to play in the Venice Cup in China 2019.

We are indebted to the TD team; Horst Kopleck, Christine Walker & Julia Palmer: scorer Andrew Barnes and SBU President Eddie McGeough for their contribution to making the event so successful. Thank You.
