North District Norvite Competition

SBU North District will be holding the 2026 Norvite competition on Friday 16th of January 2026 at 7.00pm on BBO. This event uses selected hands and aggregate scoring and is open to all SBU members who wish to take part. The entry fee is $5.00 BBO. Twenty-four boards will be played.

Local Masterpoints will be awarded, and prizes (in $BBO) will be given to the first three pairs, NS and EW.

The competition is aimed at club players and a write up of the hands will be available immediately after the event on the North District website (https://www.sbunorth.co.uk/).

We do hope you can take part. There is no need to pre-register – just turn up on BBO on the night. A warm welcome awaits you all.

Sponsorship is generously provided by Norvite (a company started by Gibby Reid) and we are proud to continue the competition in Gibby’s memory. The NS and EW winners will each be invited to select a charity to which the sponsorship money will be donated (last year this was £150).

For those unfamiliar with Aggregate Scoring

The tactics are similar to teams and favour bidding aggressively to games and slams. Overtricks are not important – the safety of the contract is what matters. Event Booking Notes

Online entries

Please select the event name for full details of any event.

The list of entries is updated immediately; you will receive an emailed receipt with a cancellation code if you need to withdraw. You will receive a further email a few days before the event.

How to pay for BBO events

If the entry price is quoted in BBO$ then payment is on the day when you enter the event. You need to register for the event on BBO - allow at least 15 minutes prior to the start in case of problems. Ensure you have enough money in your BBO account to pay the entry fee.

How to pay for other events

Payments must be made by Credit or Debit Card. There will be a payment link for the event on the event description. Use this to make your payment. If you need to pay a different amount, for instance if you have a Junior in your team, contact financial.controller@sbu.org.uk for a specific payment link.

The event is not shown?

Events disappear from the Calendar when they have been run. If you need to pay for a completed tournament, there is a list of completed tournaments here with the payment links.

How to Contact Us

There should be a link to the event convener listed. If there is no link you can email SBU Competitions Convenor If you have any problems using the booking system you can contact the Website Administrator.

Need to cancel?

If you no longer wish to play in an event, you can use the Cancellation Link which is included in your emailed entry receipt, so hang on to that. If you need to change your lineup, please contact the convener directly. You could also cancel and re-enter.

An email with the joining link will be sent to the person registering the day before the event. The event will also be added to the Event Description on the website.

All national SBU Events are Red Pointed. Unless otherwise noted, all players must be members of the SBU.

Players should endeavour to arrive at the venue or join online at least 15 minutes before the start of the event – anyone unable to attend should make every effort to inform the Convener.
