GDPR - all you need to know and more

The EU regulation named GDPR takes effect throughout the EU on the 25th May 2018.

The “General Data Protection Regulation” (GDPR) is a set of rules, agreed by all 28 EU countries.
The GDPR applies to ‘personal data’, which means any information relating to an identifiable person who can be directly or indirectly identified in particular by reference to an identifier.

This set of rules applies to all organisations operating within the EU, and the definition of organisations includes, ipso facto, association of members such as a bridge or social club, and clearly the SBU itself.

The date of 25th May applies whether or not the UK Data Protection Bill currently going through Parliament reaches the statute book by that date.

The GDPR affects the SBU to some extent but not in a major way. Clubs have slightly less change to consider, and Districts will be least affected.

This section of the SBU website will hold the information needed and will be added to over the next few weeks.
Specific guidance will be provided to SBU-affiliated clubs and SBU Districts.

Thank you.
