It is with great sadness that I have to let you know, Neil Thomson has passed away. Neil, one of the best bridge players in the Southern District, was often to be seen in the finals of National Competitions and indeed won the Spence Cup and the Scottish Men’s Pairs.

Neil was immense in stature and contributed immensely to the running of the Southern District.  He had been on the Committee for more years than I care to remember and with his unflappable nature was equally adept at running competitions, Tournament Directing and creating and maintaining the District Website.  He was always happy to help out in any capacity, so long as it was done his way!  It didn’t matter whether it was a friendly or a more serious competition Neil’s name was first on the sheet.  We have benefited greatly from Neil’s technological prowess and his ability to train others in its use.
Our sincere thoughts go out to his family especially Tracey.  He will be sadly missed as both a friend and a fellow bridge player. Car journeys to far flung competitions will never again be the same.
